PRACTICAL METHOD

Hi there—glad we’ve connected!
I’m Paul Fontaine, your vocal mechanics coach. With over 15 years of experience and 22,000+ teaching hours, I’ve helped hundreds of singers develop the control, confidence, and artistry they need to truly excel.
While traditional vocal scales, breath control, and placement are important, they are incomplete if that’s all a singer is taught. Many singers are born with certain vocal advantages—natural coordination, flexibility, or strength in the laryngeal system—so they can sing well right away. Most people, however, are not born with those attributes fully developed.
That’s where Vocal Mechanics comes in.
What Vocal Mechanics Actually Does
Vocal Mechanics focuses on precise, targeted exercises that go beyond standard warm-ups. These exercises are designed to work at a highly specific level inside the larynx, linking each note to the next and correcting weak or unresponsive muscle coordination.
When the laryngeal muscles respond correctly:
-
airflow works naturally
-
pitch locks in cleanly
-
placement functions properly
-
tension releases on its own
The result is a voice that feels stable, free, and reliable.
What This Course Delivers
-
A focused, athletic approach that strengthens weak spots while building range, stamina, and finesse
-
A step-by-step curriculum for beginner, intermediate, and advanced singers who want measurable improvements in agility, resonance, and note-to-note flow
-
Modern, high-impact exercises that go far beyond routine scales or warm-ups
-
A complete system that trains the entire voice and bridges all problem areas
Training the Voice Like an Athlete
There are five key muscle groups inside the larynx that must be trained for any singer who wants:
-
range
-
power
-
flexibility
-
endurance
These are not typical singing lessons, and these exercises do not simply warm up the voice within its current limits. This method recalibrates the laryngeal system itself.
How Vocal Mechanics Recalibrates the Larynx
1. Re-balancing the intrinsic laryngeal muscles
Inside the larynx are small, highly precise muscles that stretch, thin, and shorten the vocal folds. When these fall out of balance, singers compensate by pushing or squeezing. Targeted exercises restore proper coordination so the vocal folds move efficiently—without force.
2. Reducing protective tension patterns
When the voice feels unstable, the body instinctively recruits larger neck and throat muscles for protection. Over time, this becomes habitual tension. Properly sequenced exercises signal safety to the nervous system, allowing tension to release naturally.
3. Restoring fine motor control
Singing requires millimeter-level precision. Vocal Mechanics functions like physical therapy for the voice, rebuilding timing, responsiveness, and control so the larynx adjusts pitch, volume, and tone without over-recruitment.
4. Re-establishing efficient neural pathways
Muscles follow the nervous system. Repetitive, correct vocal patterns rebuild brain-to-muscle communication, allowing the larynx to default to efficient movement rather than old compensations.
5. Improving vocal fold closure without force
The exercises train the vocal folds to meet cleanly without slamming together, improving tone clarity, endurance, and range—because efficiency replaces effort.
In Simple Terms
Vocal exercises don’t “strengthen the voice” the way lifting weights strengthens muscles.
They re-educate the laryngeal muscle system, teaching the muscles you sing with to work together, not against each other.
With correct and consistent training, the larynx learns:
-
how much tension is actually needed
-
when to engage and when to release
-
how to produce sound with stability instead of force
That’s why the voice can suddenly feel easier, freer, and more dependable—without trying harder.
Because of this unique approach, progress happens quickly.
Vocal Mechanics takes singing to the next level without interfering with vocal style, allowing total freedom of expression and genuine emotion. This method helps any singer, regardless of age or ability.
Whether you sing Pop, Rock, Country, Folk, Hip-Hop, Blues, R&B, Christian, Classical, or Broadway, Vocal Mechanics removes the mystery from all styles of singing.
Your voice doesn’t wear out.
It only gets better!

I learned more in one day with Paul than I did in a year with a teacher I had prior. He has transformed my speaking voice as well.
